Introduction

Introduction

AMIAD :

The Ministerial Agency for Artificial Intelligence in Defence will be set up in 2024 to coordinate the various AI-based projects being developed within the French armed forces. To achieve this, AMIAD will have a staff of 300 in 2026, divided into two divisions, a technical division located in Bruz (35) and a research division in Palaiseau (91).

STAT :

The Land Forces Technical Section is responsible for conducting technical tests and evaluating equipment, from design to retirement. In coordination with the French Defence Procurement Agency (DGA), STAT's work ensures the best possible integration of technological innovations and equipment within our armed forces.

CND :

The Commissariat au numérique de défense was created in September 2025, under the direct authority of the Ministry of the Armed Forces and Veterans, with the aim of enhancing the effectiveness of the armed forces by bringing together existing digital structures and skills. The aim is to reduce foreign technological dependency while strengthening the cyber security of public tools. With this in mind, AMIAD will be integrated into the CND in 2026.

ASGARD :

Inaugurated in September 2025, the ASGARD classified supercomputer dedicated to artificial intelligence is the most powerful in Europe. Run by AMIAD but hosted by the CND at Mont-Valérien, this classified computer will enable the armed forces to train military AI models faster and more efficiently.
